Celine Dion - Misheard Lyrics

My son gently presented this video to me as proof that I've been singing the wrong words to Celine Dion's hit song from the movie Titanic,My Heart Will Go On-

It's funny how people misunderstand the words to songs, especially people who are as picky about lyrics, as I am. But I suppose it's a common mistake and I shouldn't be embarrassed. Although, when I think of how many times I sang this song (and others)in the car, shower, walking down the street, outside the car window, and in the grocery store, I cringe.

Many times I belted it out on the front of the ferry boat that crosses our part of the Mississippi River after the movie was released. I imagined Leonardo DiCaprio's arms wrapped securely around my waist, as I belted out the lyrics, my arms stretched toward the sea like a song bird. Although, every time I sang on the ferry, I should have known something was wrong when I heard people laughing and clapping-

That is, most people laughed and clapped, the rest stared at me with a motionless gaze, as if they had never seen anyone like me before, and now I know why... how embarrassing. :))

Remember that Kenny Rogers song ...

You picked a fine time to leave me Lucile ... "400 children"
Of course, it's NOT 400 children, and that would be quite impossible!
So, you sing in public too?? :-) I can't help myself, and sing all the time ... everywhere. It seems to have a calming effect.

as one of the great misenterpreteurs (is that word???)of lyrics in this world I know what you mean...:)))

Speedy, You are not going to believe this, but I was just thinking about you~ I miss you~

And I hope you're right about Kenny's song, because I thought what is the world coming too when a mother could leave 400 hungry children with no crops. Maybe Lucille wasn't such a terrible mother after all... Thanks Eric.

And yes, I'm a compulsive singer. I sing all the time, and I worry that one day I'm going to start singing at an inappropriate time or event. I think that comes from a time I got in trouble for humming in class.

I should have known you would get the humor of this post, and that you're a compulsive singer.

Hey, do you know the song John, Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt?

If you don't read my post; The Funniest Things Children Do And Say. (It's labeled "about children" and is archived in July 26 07)I'm sorry I couldn't leave a link.

I have a link to the lyrics in the post. It is so much fun to sing to small children- plus I still sing it to myself sometimes. (smile)

Thanks for the comment Speedy and I'm glad you stopped by~

Very funny video (and post!).

Remember that song way, way back that said something like Big Ol' Jet Airliner? I always thought it said (and I have absolutely no idea why) "Big O tear that line up."

Yeah.
Not sure how you'd make a video about that...

You are SO fun! There's a song by the Foo Fighters called Hero. My husband, our hired-hand (who is also a very dear friend), and I were building fence one day. Hubs had the radio in the tractor playing while we worked on fence. I was singing along with the song and belted out "Sgt. Mary" and continued to sing. Hubs and Hired-Hand stood there looking at me laughing. "Sergeant Mary???" they asked. "Yeah. Duh!" I replied. They howled with laughter. Later, I looked up the lyrics - they are actually saying "He's Ordinary". Oh well, at least I gave them a reason to laugh.

I also thought that Metallica was singing "There's whiskey in the GYRO". I happened to think this was really cool, considering we raised sheep/lambs, and I didn't know you could use whiskey in a Gyro. My husband still won't let me live that one down. When we are out playing pool, and the DJ plays that song, Hubs will say "Listen Honey, it's your alcoholic Gyro song!" yeah, yeah, whatever.

I bet you are really laughing now!

I used to work with a guy that never seemed to get the words right to any song. Yet he loudly and proudly sang them all. It was kind of annoying and pretty funny at the same time.

hahaha! But hey if you want to sing wherever, sing! Express yourself. Don't care what other people think, just don't overdo it like singing too loud so as not to disturb others hehehe.

But if people were clapping that mean s that you must really have a really nice voice.

I am guilty of singing the wrong words to songs alllll the time. Mariah Carey has a song "Never Gonna Be Lonely" was part of the lyrics and I used to say "Move a little to the left" Its sounded like she was saying that to me... oh well. LOL.
