The Santa Claus Candle

When I was a little girl I wondered why Santa Claus was better looking in some photographs and paintings.

My grandmother had a picture of a good-looking Santa with silver curly hair on her fireplace mantel each year – but my second-grade teacher had a picture of the same man with straight white hair and glasses. I thought my grandmother’s Santa was more attractive, even if his eyes were too small.

I never asked anyone about my Santa Claus observation, particularly grown-ups; because I thought it would be impolite to question the frequent changes in Santa’s appearance. Moreover, Santa’s appearance had “grown-up secret” written on it, and I knew I should stay away from grown-up secrets.

Anyway, I don’t have to worry about that anymore, because I’m a grown-up now, and I know why Santa is better looking sometimes. In any event, I haven’t thought about my Santa observation in years (a lie) until I was asked to post an essay about Santa. The title was, "What Was the Funniest or Worst Christmas Gift You Ever Received?"

At first, I wasn’t sure what the funniest or worst gift I ever received was, because the worst, funniest, and the best present I ever received for Christmas happened to be the same gift; a candle with a bad looking Santa painted on the front. - it was a gift wrapped with good intentions -- a gag gift.

Tuesday's Questions Best Answer!

Who Won?
Hello and welcome to Tuesday's Question.  I began asking questions in 2007 to get to know my readers and I've been asking them on and off ever since.

The idea to get to know the people who were visiting my blog by asking questions, worked, but lately, I realized that I was the one asking all the questions.

In the beginning I thought the questions would stimulate conversation and they did, but most of the time it was a one-sided conversation, meaning, everyone was answering my question.

Besides, I've been questioning my visitors for so long, I decided to spice up Tuesday's Question a bit and choose a best answer and the winner would have the opportunity to ask the next week's question and choose the next best answer, and so on...

The first person, and now, co-author of A Nice Place In The Sun, to win Best Answer To Tuesday's Question, was Sandee of Comedy Plus, who asked an excellent Tuesday's Question last week.

This was before I had all of the particular's aired out, meaning, Sandee should have had the opportunity to pick the next best answer, so if our winner from last week's Tuesday's Question would rather not choose who wrote the best answer it will be up to Sandee to decide.

So, are you ready to know who wrote the best answer?

Real Ghosts!

Thirteen is a great age and I cannot think of a friend who wasn’t delighted on their thirteenth birthday, because after all it’s the first day you become an actual teenager and as far as we were concerned we were practically adults.

That is with a few exceptions, we still could not get into an R-rated movie, smoke or drink, date without our parent’s watchful eyes, enter a night club, or trick or treat. Oh, but we were resourceful and one Halloween it occurred to a buddie and I that we actually could trick-or-treat.  After all, adults dressed up and went to parties, in fact, our parents were going to a party, but we were supposed to stay home with a “baby” sitter?

Awww Mondays!

Hello, today is Monday, which means it's time for Awww Mondays! Every Monday, my dear friend of Comedy Plus posts a picture that makes you say Awww....

All you have to do is post a picture that makes you say Awww and link your post back to Comedy Plus.  Just copy and paste the code beneath your image for Awww Mondays and add the link to your post to the Mondays link list. Then, visit the other blogs on the list, it's fun. - You will find the code for the link list on Comedy Plus. -

Awww Monday's is a great way to start the week, meet a lot of friends, and enjoy a variety of photos.

So, have a good time and enjoy a spectacular day!

Heaven Knows

She feels joy, but won't admit it.
She feels pain, and won't forget it.
But, it's alright, she has a place inside.
A special home where she can hide.
Her name is written in the stars above.
And on earth she shares her love.
She looks to heaven for hours.
For the colors in rainbows and the color of flowers.
She will go where the wind blows...
This is something no one knows.
Except for her which she hides...
In her home deep inside.
Where the wind blows is where she goes...
It's just something she undergoes...

Tuesday's Question: When have you felt your biggest adrenaline rush?

Brag Tag

Hello, and welcome to Tuesday's Question. First, I would like to thank all of you who participated in last weeks Tuesday's Question, asked by Sandee of Comedy Plus and ANPITS who won the first Brag Tag.

Please refer to my apology post for my absence, entitled, Friendship  or if you missed last Tuesday's Question, just click the link which includes an excellent question with courageous answers. I hate to have to keep leading you to other posts, but here is the link to the  Tuesday's Question that Sandee won, which also explains how to win the Brag Tag and the opportunity to ask the next Tuesday's Question.

All answers will receive a link back to their blog or website, and I must warn you, your answer may be posted at some point, as "Best Answers To Tuesday's Question." However, if you would rather I didn't post your answers in a published post, just let me know in "comments" and I will be happy to respect your wishes.  Okay, I'll answer first...and I will announce the next "Brag Tag" winner following my answer. ;)

The Mystery Of The Soda Pop Bottle

Right now, I have a two liter bottle of "Soda Pop," that I cannot open. I have tried to cut the top open with a knife, run it under hot water, hit it with the back of the knife, smash it against the counter, cut the tab off, plead with it, in the best words I could find, but no, the bottle will not open! I've had this problem before and these techniques worked, but not this time.

This bottle is against me, I'm sure of it and I'm gonna open the top if it's the last thing I do, and it just might be the last thing I do...'cause it's the most hostile bottle of pop I've ever bought.

I do not want to mention the brand name of the soda, because it's the bottles fault. Although, I have to say, if I was inside a soda bottle I might not want to come out either.

But then again, I wonder what is inside? Does it have slivers of Gold in it, or what?

Friendship!

I would like to thank my dear friend Sandee from Comedy Plus for posting, asking, and responding to the wonderful comments on Tuesday's Question.

Friendship is one of the most valuable gifts we have in our lives and I am grateful for Sandee's and everyone who took the time to write about the stories of their childhood, which I understand is a gutsy thing to do.

I have been ill, but determined to keep ANPITS rolling. So, for some time, I haven't posted on a regular basis or visited all of your wonderful blogs and I was astonished to be hospitalized on a day I was looking forward to.

It was the first time I have invited another blogger to ask Tuesday's Question, but Sandee is a loyal friend and the first to win the Brag Tag, (seen on Sandee's post.) due to her fabulous answers for many years.

So, I'm sure you can understand how disappointed I was to miss Sandee's post and answer her question and I would like to apologize to all of you for my absence.

So now, I will answer Tuesday's Question, which my dear friend wrote and answered, along with all of you who took the time to visit.

Here is my answer to Sandee's excellent question:-

Tuesday's Question

One of my favorite blogging buddies, Annie of A Nice Place In The Sun, has been doing Tuesday's Question for a very long time. I think I've played along each week she's posed a question.

10/11/16

It's Tuesday's...So It's Time For Tuesday's Question:

Hello, and welcome to Tuesday's Question! Every Tuesday, - Or Almost- I post a question for you and I to answer. All you have to do is answer it and I will post a link back to your blog. That's it, except, I must warn you, your answer may be posted on one of my " Best answers to Tuesday's Question posts," at which time the best answer will earn one of my "Brag tags."- Image on the left- and the reader the opportunity to ask the following Tuesday's Question.

But, please do not let the "Brag Tag" or the possibility of your answer being published in a post, stop you from being honest. Because, I promise I will not publish your answer against your wishes, -just let me in comments- and second, I started Tuesday Question to get to know my readers and for you to get to know me all the way back in 2007 and we cannot truly know you if you're not honest.

Plus, whoever wins a brag tag, will have an opportunity to ask me a question I haven't asked or answered yet.

Alright, alright, I know you want to know what today's question so...

My Music Man

I started to write a post today, but my mind has been on my son lately, so I couldn't concentrate. My son, Taylor, is a Musician so I never know where he is and this song reminds me of him.

It's a hard career, but you're born a Musician, it's really not a choice. I worry about him...I will write a post tomorrow. Thank you for visiting A Nice Place In The Sun. :)))))

And remember to follow your bliss-

Wordless Wednesday! Life Finds A Way

Wordless Wednesday is a fabulous meme, hosted by my dear friend and fellow blogger, Sandee of Comedy Plus.

WW is what Sandee refers to as a "visual blogosphere phenomenon" and I have to agree.  It's an easy and fun way to meet other bloggers in the blogging world.

All you have to do is post a photo, picture or cartoon that speaks for itself.  Then, add your name to the WW link list where you will find links to other participants blogs and they can find a link to yours.

Visit Sandee on Comedy Plus for the WW code and join in the fun.  Here is my contribution for this week...

Raindrops Are Falling On My Head

Hello, if this post looks a little strange it's because the fan went out on my computer, so I'm using my IPod and I'm having trouble lining the post. Every time I decide I'm going to try to publish posts more often something happens, but as the song says, "Crying is not for me," besides my computer will be fixed soon.
I just wanted to let my readers know that I'm fine and dandy and will be back with some new posts soon. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

9/15/16

Wordless Wednesday- Tell Us A Story

Wordless Wednesday  "WW is a simple blog post featuring a photo which conveys a message that speaks for itself without using words."

My introduction was written by Sandee of Comedy plus, where you can also find the link to add to your post.

A lot of people are participating in WW today, so come join in the fun. Wordless Wednesday is one of my favorite memes because like a writer paints a picture using imagery, photographs, cartoons, and paintings also tell us stories. All art should stir our souls, like Franz Kafka said about books,  "A book must be the ax for the frozen sea inside us."  I believe his phrase is a great metaphor for all art and WW gives us the opportunity to crack the ice inside us, whether it brings forth laughter, memories, etc...it's up to our own interpretation.  So, again, post a photo, that tells us a story or calls forth an emotional response.

Silly Sunday! - A Good Nights Sleep-

Comedy Plus, in addition to all of the bloggers who participate in this fun meme, is the "place to visit for weekly laughs." Created by Sandee of Comedy Plus, "the rules are simple, just have fun."

"Here's how it works, laugh and link up." After you publish your Silly Sunday post, add the link to your post to Sandee's link list, here's the link to Silly Sunday's code on Comedy Plus.  and we will share the same links, laugh at each other and make new friends.

Silly Sunday-Yesterday

I’m having a nostalgic year. I miss the sixties, seventies, and eighties when camera phones didn't exist.
I miss riding in cars with my friends and singing the songs we loved on the car radio, instead of people listening to their own private songs through their tiny ear speakers.

Plus, we experienced our favorite artist’s music when we went to concerts instead of worrying about whether our camera phone was ready. – And most families had one phone -probably green- in their home and one television set.-

I do not like it, wherever you go, whether it’s a concert, or just walking around the streets, everyone in public, resembles a bunch of “big brothers,” from the novel 1984.  I worry and hope that tourists on vacation in big cities are aware of pick- pockets while they're talking on the phone and that all of us are mindful when driving a car.

When I think of our world in the next few decades, I shiver, because I imagine drones zooming above, below and beside us on every trip we take, every call we make and every step we take. I can envision those little jets in my mind’s eye, zipping around in our atmosphere smashing into stars. I do not watch much television, but when I watch the news I wonder how long we will need Photojournalists and when I watch a live band or performers on television the camera sashays among a crowd of people with cameras over their faces. It reminds me of what people look like wearing 3D movie glasses in a theater.

Not all, but if you photograph many audiences today, they resemble a bunch of mannequins with cameras covering their face, or worse, an entire generation of the “Stepford Wife’s” offspring.

Tuesday's Question, Down Memory Lane...

Hello, and welcome to Tuesday's Question. I have been absent from my blog for awhile, but A Nice Place In The Sun, will always be here, that is, as long as Google will have me.

I decided, that it would nice to take a trip down memory lane to the funniest answers posted from some wonderful bloggers and friends dating back to 2008/09 believe it or not. I cannot believe how long my little place on the internet has survived and I thank of all of the readers who have helped me keep it afloat all of these years and you know who you are.

I was going to ask another original question but while I was going through Tuesdays Questions to make sure I hadn't posted the same question before, (because I have something like 50 Tuesday's Questions or more.) I found one that cracked me up, so I decided to take a walk down memory lane.         http://aniceplaceinthesun.blogspot.com/2008/09/tuesdays-question-when-was-last-time.html#comments

To those of you who are new to A Nice Place In The Sun, here is a copy of what I wrote on the 42nd Tuesdays' Question.

Hello, and welcome to the 42nd Tuesday's Question! Tuesday's Question is A Nice Place In The Sun's way of sharing weekly link love, getting to know my readers and introducing bloggers to other bloggers. I think it is a personal way of learning about other bloggers, much like writing a blog review but with the blogger participating on a more personal level. Because you learn more about the person behind a blog by asking questions that connect people to each other. All participates answers/comments are posted within the Tuesday's Question post on the same day, along with a link to their site, however, you don't have to own a blog to participate. All you have to do is write your answer in comments and I will publish them along with your name~

Now, I'm going to post the bloggers answers, some who are still blogging and others who have stopped. I'm also including my own answer, which I believe is no match for my buddies answers. Keep reading and I promise you will laugh. And please feel free to participate, because what I wrote above remains the same. If I do not respond to your comments it's due to the weather here in south La. We're experiencing the worse flooding we've ever had in the history of our city. So, forgive me for posting so late in the day and if you read any typos. :))

Please keep reading...The Question I asked in 2009 was: When Was The Last Time You Impulsively Did Something Foolish?

To Swing On A Rainbow

She wished to swing on a rainbow into a sky painted blue, where the stars slept at night and angels flew. And when the sky turned black from day to night, she would dangle from a star like the string on a kite.

What would it be like if her wish did come true, what would it be like, if only she knew.

 Ann Clemmons

I'm working on my final draft of a children's manuscript, so I thought I would just write a short post today.

Thank you for stopping by A Nice Place In The Sun and have a spectacular Saturday!

If Doors Could Talk

When my family visited my maternal grandmother during the springtime, we sat on her screened in front porch before the onset of a sweltering Louisiana summer, at which time we visited inside with the air conditioner. The view of her front yard from the porch in the spring and autumn months was intoxicating. You felt as if you were sitting inside a bouquet of untouched flowers beneath a pristine airy sky.
The house was in the center of the yard, which was surrounded by azalea bushes, petunias, and moss sheltered trees, so the heat wasn’t the only reason we sat on the front porch instead of going in the house, it was because we couldn’t resist being outside.

The front porch had two front doors, one for humans and a door my grandmother had built at the  bottom of the front porch window for her beloved German shepherd, “Sam,” whose door remained swinging from the top hinges after his death. I loved to enter the porch through Sam’s door and of course, play with it although my grandmother prohibited it.  Sam’s door was built for Sam and when a hinge broke or the wood cracked, she had it fixed, she never removed the door.

Forgotten Language, by Shel Silverstein

Forgotten Language, by Shel Silverstein

Once I spoke the language of the flowers,
Once I understood each word the caterpillar said,
Once I smiled in secret at the gossip of the starlings,
And shared a conversation with the housefly
in my bed.
Once I heard and answered all the questions
of the crickets,
And joined the crying of each falling dying
flake of snow,
Once I spoke the language of the flowers. . . .
How did it go?
How did it go?

Words...

I think I made a mistake for writing, "Leave Of Absence," especially to those of you who have been so loyal to ANPITS. Yes, I have my troubles like everyone else, and so what if I cannot write posts as often, I can still write words.

I just didn't want any of you to think I abandoned writing on my blog, as so many people are doing these days. I will continue to do the best I can and I appreciate your understanding, loyalty, and friendship.

Lately, I realize how important words are; words are the core of our souls, without lyrical expression we lose sight of one another or worse, ourselves. Words bring forth the essence of the human spirit; it is our fundamental nature to express ourselves without abandon.
And now, we have the best opportunity we’ve ever had to use them, so let’s use them wisely.

This passage was written by me, so I suppose I will eat a few words for breakfast this morning, with the exception of "expressing ourselves without abandon." :)))

Thanks for visiting A Nice Place In The Sun. Have a great day!

Leave Of Absence

Unfortunately, I have take a leave of absence due to illness, but I will be back...so don't give up on me just yet. So, I plan on returning as soon as possible and will post some videos in the meantime, I'm just not well enough to write to keep up.

In the meantime, please enjoy the posts I have archived and know I will return as soon as possible.

As always, thank you for visiting and have a super happy day!

Dexter, My First Crush...Do You Remember Your First Crush?

Hello, and welcome to Tuesday's Question. I have a Doctor appointment out of town today, so if I do not respond to your answers today, I most certainly will tomorrow.  Thank you, Sandee of Comedy Plus for you wonderful answer to last Tuesday's Question and thank you Ann of Snap, Edit, Scrap.   for yours.

Please, if you have the time, read Sandee and Ann's answers to Sibling Rivalry they're simply fabulous and thanks to both of you for participating. I appreciate you.

Okay, this weeks question is:

Do you remember your first crush?   Alright, I'll go first...

My first crush was on a boy named Dexter who sat next to me in the third grade and he was fascinating. Dexter had action figures hidden in his desk and maps he drew of oceans, rivers, mountains and streams.

Sibling Rivalry

Hello, and welcome to A Nice Place In The Sun. I'm back...but I'm still regaining my sea legs, so I haven't written anything new and I've been worried about it. Then, this morning, I remembered a second grade essay written by my brother David and I realized I'm not the only writer in my family...I mean geez...;)

I Resemble A Mouse On My Birthday

Hello, is anyone there? I resemble the mouse in this image today. This past week, I've been in bed nursing a sinus infection and watching the ceiling swirl.

I think my bed is floating across the room, but I can barely lift my eye lids, so I'm not sure.

The middle of my nose has grown an inch or two, my forehead resembles Frankenstein's, my eyes are droopy and red...I'm sorry, I'm sure you can relate, after all, I'm not the only person who has suffered from a sinus infection, it's just that viruses love me so much they overstay their visit.

And, you know what? Today is my birthday. Yes, I'm thirty years old today. (A lie)
Yes, I lived through my tender years and now it's time to celebrate.  I'm not going to let this virus stop me...No-Sir-Ree-Bob, not me, I'm getting out of bed so that I can resemble the image below instead...

Tuesdays Question- Have You Ever Skipped A Day Of School?

Hello, and welcome to Tuesday's Question. I wonder if I should have phrased this question, "Have You Ever Been Caught Skipping A Day Of School?" But, then I thought, maybe you never have skipped a day of class, but if you haven't, you can still tell us why.

I began asking questions every Tuesday since 2007 in an effort to get to know my readers, for you to get to know me and to encourage conversation between everyone who leaves comment, so feel free to comment to each other.

If you write a blog or website I will link back to your site, plus, I must warn everyone who comments, if I like your answer it may show up in a published post.

Although, please let me know in comments if you would like your answer to remain within this post and your wishes will be respected.

A Bloggers Spectacular Answer To Tuesday's Question: What's The Most Outrageous Experience You've Had With A Friend?

I received one comment to yesterdays Tuesday Question, but after reading Sandee of Comedy Plus' answer it was enough. Thank you, Sandee for sharing your hilarious answer and daily laughs on Comedy Plus.

Please feel free to let us know about your most outrageous experience with a friend by commenting to yesterdays Tuesday's Question. Thank you. :)

I do not want to paraphrase Sandee's answer it, so here it is along with a few images:

What's The Most Outrageous Experience You've Shared With A Friend?

This week’s Tuesday’s Question is: 'What's The Most Outrageous Experience You've Shared With A Friend?’

As stated in my last post, my computer, "Sam" was admitted to the hospital last Monday for minor surgery. I thought I'd have him home in time to publish a question by now, but that didn't happen. -As it turned out I had to pay a few costly repairs before Sam was discharged.-

1/19/16

Sam Is Sick

It looks like it's gonna be one of those weeks...I had my computer worked on last week and it was doing well until this morning when "he" started having a few issues. I brought it or him, (My computer's name is Sam, he's male.) to the computer doctor where he will have to stay a day or two. I hope he doesn't whine too much.

Decisions, Decisions...

Happy Saturday! One of my favorite movie moments, which for me, includes skillful dialogue, for example, in this film the line,  "I can't swim."

Scene from Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid

What is your favorite line of dialogue in a book or film?

Thanks for visiting A Nice Place In The Sun.

Have a fun Saturday Evening!

Note: I'm not sure what it is, but from my side of things, the line I wrote out is not showing up,

The line is, "I can't Swim."

Forgive me if you did not see it or if you see it two or three times. :) Well, I'm also not seeing, What is your favorite line of dialogue in a book or film?

But, I got some fabulous answers...Hmm...Let me know if you see it, o.k?

Thanks:)

Single Parenthood- I'm Glad I Paddled The Boat Ashore

The color of the water in the gulf changed from dark blue to black at nightfall, so my vision was hazy, but I held my son tight as our raft bounced on the waves.

My stomach felt weak, and I braced myself for what may be a trip to the edge of the world. I gently stroked my son’s wavy blond hair and rocked him against my chest. His hair smelled like the day we had before nightfall...full of sunscreen, salt, and sweat. The droplets of water on his hair gave off the only light, except for the silver fish splashing in the waves and the tiny white stars twinkling above.

We are a part of the stars and the vast sea, suspended on our raft in rough deep water, miles above the ocean floor, and so far from land that we couldn’t see a line in the horizon, or where the sky ended and the body of water began. Disoriented, I prayed I could hold my head up while our son slept on my chest sucking his thumb knowing I would bring him home safely. Nevertheless, all I knew was that I was waiting for you.

Tuesday's Question: "What Would You Like Me To Know About You,?" and, "What Would You Like To Know About Me?"

Hello, welcome to Tuesday's Question. I've been searching for a question all day that I haven't already asked since I began posting Tuesday's Question in 2007.

Over the years, and stretches between posts, I've tried to ask original questions, (If there is such a thing.) in an effort keep the questions fresh, as well as authentic.

Hence today, in keeping with that tradition, instead of answering my own question, I'm going to answer your questions and vice-versa. Make sense?

I hope so...'cause here goes...

Alright, let's see how well I do at clarifying this...here's the first question: "What Would You Like Me To Know About You,?"and, "What Would You Like To Know About Me?"

Keeping up with Glady's

Some of you may remember a post I wrote in November about a curious neighbor, who pretends she's minding her own business when she's not. I named her Glady's Kravitz, after the nosy neighbor in 1960's situation comedy, "Betwitched," because she will not tell me her name.

If you read the post, "Christmas Down South," you'll learn more about my neighbor, Glady's, who was spying on me while I was putting up my Christmas decorations. The windows are large in my apartment complex and the weather is nice, springlike, so my neighbors have their windows open, which most of us ignore, but not Glady's.

As I mentioned in "Christmas Down South," all people are curious, but southerners are downright nosy, although they pretend they're not. Well, I cannot say all southerners are like Glady's, 'cause after all, I'm a southerner.

It's just that some like to remain anonymous and ignorant of the truth, that way, it's easier to create drama while they enlist their buddies to help label others in their boxes. I think Glady's is the leader of the label crowd,  'cause she has a following of woman who pretend they're "fast walking" around the apartments, when they're really "fast talking."

You see, Glady's is home during the day so she's the one investigating my profile. Well, I guess, she is, I'm not sure because Gladys doesn't associate with me, after all, I'm a box label.

Oh...Not Another Monday!

This Monday, I wanted to join in the weekly meme from Comedy Plus, entitled, Awww...Monday's, but it wouldn't have been honest.  When you post the Awww...Monday's meme, the photo is supposed to make you say, Awww...

But, this week my image would make you say,
"Awww...Not another Monday..."

I couldn't believe how well this cartoon captures the last two days of my life.  I'm always working on and offline, so I'm surrounded by outgoing, incoming, and "in progress" manuscripts, articles, etc...although it's not quite as disorganized (a lie) as this image.

Words are the core of our souls, without written, vocal or lyrical expression we lose sight of one another or worse, ourselves. Words bring forth the essence of the human spirit; so express yourself without abandon.

I remember I used to half believe and wholly play with fairies when I was a child. What heaven can be more real than to retain the spirit-world of childhood, tempered and balanced by knowledge and common-sense...
