What Are Your Irrational Fears? (Tuesday's Question)
Today's Tuesday's Question asks, What Are Your Irrational Fears?
How many of you can relate to the elephant in this image? I read once that fear is, "False Evidence Appearing Real," so I repeat the phrase in my mind when I'm frightened.
However, that would be a bad idea if a bear extended his paw to meet my acquaintance...or lions, tigers, and wild wolf dogs were running towards me.
In those cases if I repeated to myself, "It's false evidence appearing real, it's false evidence appearing real" those words would be my last.
But, repeating those words to myself is effective when it comes to irrational fears, such as, walking refrigerators... being strangled by furniture...or your mother-in-law talking through the picture frames...that kind of stuff. That's what I mean by irrational fear...
What are your irrational fears?
Below is a note to first time visitors, plus an announcement at the end of the paragraph to those of you familiar with Tuesday's Question. Because I know you will not read this paragraph, and I don't blame you, but if you do, I have a small announcement about the Butterfly Award in addition to the award for Tuesday's Question at the end of the post. Oh, I guess, I just told you what I wrote.
Anyway, again, if this is the first time you've visited Tuesday's Question, I wrote a brief description below:
All participates answers are posted in the same post along with a link to their site, but you don't have to own a blog to participate. All you have to do is write your answer to the question in my comments and I will do the rest~
In addition, every participate is welcome to a Tuesday's Question Brag Badge posted with a code in my sidebar. The Brag Badge gives you the opportunity to bring your visitors to archived Tuesday's Questions where you can show off the ingenuity of you and fellow blogger's past comments.
By the way, I have two awards I've created for Tuesday's Question's most loyal participants this past year. Most of you are probably already aware of my Top Commenter Award plans because I've mentioned them in recent Tuesday's Question posts. I was going to nominate the recipients today, but I didn't want to interfere with the question itself, plus I'm trying to decide which award I like the best. Maybe, I should let you decide. Let me know what you think, O.K.?
Plus, I literally received the coolest award called the Butterfly Award for the Coolest Blogs from two of the coolest blogger's. First the wonderful Abelle at Only in Silence nominated me, then my good friend Shinade at The Painted Veil, nominated me as well. Therefore, tomorrow will be an awards day on A Nice Place In The Sun.
I'm grateful for your patience and understanding these past few weeks, all of you have been super great people.
And for those of you reading this for the first time, thanks for participating, reading, or stopping by to visit. Answers are posted as quickly as possible throughout the day with a link to the participating blogger's blogs. I've provided a link for you to visit the bloggers whose answer because chances are if you liked a bloggers answer, you will also enjoy their blog.
Have Fun, and remember Tuesday's Question is a weekly post of original questions, well, questions off the top of my head anyway. ~
Alright, get ready, get set...set? Go!

My first brave commenter is my friend Shinade at The Painted Veil
Hello Annie,
Right now I am sitting here at my computer typing a message to you.
I did read all the way through also. thanks for the mention. you are just so sweet.
I only have one truly irrational fear, well maybe I have more but I don't have time to write a book...lol..okay?
My biggest irrational fear in the entire world is a snake.
Any kind of snake even rubber play snakes.
My grandsons all learn very young not to get any where near me with any type of snake real, alive, dead, or in any other form.
That's it for this Tuesday!
Hugs:-)

The next answer is from my special friend and veteran of Tuesday's Question, Sandee from Comedy Plus, who gives a perfect example of an irrational fear. Thank you Sandee~
That I have to go back to work at the same place I worked before I retired. I know I don't have to, but I worry about it sometimes. I even have dreamed about it. I wake up in a sweat too. Almost anywhere would be a better place to work then back there.
Congratulations on the award. Have a great day Ann. Big hug and lotsa lovies. :)

The third answer is from Grace at Broadway Matron, who gives another good as well as funny example of an irrational fear. Thanks Grace~
Bugs - now that might not be irrational but I can't stand the sight of any kind of bug even if it is a picture in a newspaper article - I'll scream, drop the paper and refuse to pick it up - that's irrational.

Angels On Earth
Lost inside a state of mental and physical exhaustion, I prayed to meet an angel on earth, then, I felt the pillow of a horses mouth gently sweep grass from the palm of my hand.

I remember I used to half believe and wholly play with fairies when I was a child. What heaven can be more real than to retain the spirit-world of childhood, tempered and balanced by knowledge and common-sense...

In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I’ve been turning over in my mind ever since.
Whenever you feel like criticizing any one,” he told me, “just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.”'
F. Scott Fitzgerald. (Lines from The Great Gatsby)
"A Southerner Talks Music"
Mark Twain
"A book must be the ax for the frozen sea inside us."

An author values a compliment even when it comes from a source of doubtful competency.

"I like a good story well told. That is the reason I am sometimes forced to tell them myself"

Jackie, Thanks for reading the post all the way through...That is so sweet of you. Especially when you're not feeling well.
I love the award you gave me. I've been dying to post it, but time keeps getting away from me. I cannot seem to catch up for anything.
I am petrified of snakes too, and the rubber ones are just about as bad as the real ones. It's just the idea of them....urgh!
Oh, and boys can be awful about scaring you with them. My son never threw a snake on me, but he threw a lizard on me one time.
I'm terrified of them too. (Smile)
All reptiles scare me to death...
Thanks for commenting Jackie, and I hope you feel better soon.
Big get well hug,
Annie

Sandee, Bless your heart...It's weird how the sub-conscious works.
You had an extremely stressful career, believe I know, it takes a special person to hang in there as long as you did.
Just remember, fear is False Evidence Appearing Real. Although, I'm not sure how much that phrase will help when it comes to dreams.
Excellent answer, as usual~
Big hug and lot's of lovies back to you.
Annie
P.S. I loved your answer to my last Tuesday's Question as well. I need to post it. I'm sorry I haven't yet. Every time I start to post it I've been interrupted. I just cannot seem to catch up lately. I appreciate ya~ :)
Grace, Laughing...Yep, you're right, the first part of your answer is a bit more rational than the second. (lol)
I hate them too though, particularly lizards...
Great answer, thanks Grace,
{{{Hugs}}]
Annie
your mother-in-law talking through the picture frames!!! That cracked me up :D Scary thought!
I would have to agree with Grace. Insects freak me out. Especially ones with lots of wiggly legs... I don't even like discussing it. Flying insects are terrifying too because you can't see where they are going to land until it's too late!
Hello there, Annie! First, thank you for the mention ;o)
And second, to answer Tuesday's Question, my greatest fear is insects. I can't stand seeing/looking at them even in pics. All of them - worms, flies, bees, grasshoppers, etc. Last year, there was an offer of a review of a termite killing website to my now dead blog, but I turned it down because (1) I saw lots of close up photos of termites in their website and (2) I have to include a photo of those things in my blog!
My fear includes butterflies - living or dead. These days, my son is playing with spiders and he keeps the little transparent box with it near the TV set, beside the remote control! Oh! And I don't go near live chickens, roosters, ducks and anything with beak too (yes, including birds) because I'm afraid they will run after me and peck me ;o)
Add to the list - rats! ;o)
I have an irrational fear of paperwork. Being a "big picture" kind of guy, I'm always being tripped up by the little details. They always betray me, the little buggers.
Knowing that failure lurks in every online form, I will do anything to avoid filling them out. Which means I get behind on the mundane tasks of life.
When I get too behind, I steal a Xanax from my wife's stash. You become so mellow that you smile at the snake, bear claw, and even the order form that must be filled out perfectly.
Good question ... hmmm
I would like to say NOTHING, but of course, that would not be true.
I will, however, preface this comment by saying that I have overcome many of my fears in the past 5 years. I don't mean that in a bragging way, but in the sense that I have been through a major life change. I decided to confront my featrs, doubts, and illusions that plagued most of my early years.
The ones left?
* Heights would be one. If I am up on a balcony obver ten stories ... I do not go by the rail!
* Pop up ads ... I do not like them, and fear getting a virus :-) [ he heee ]
* I am comfortable and open around people, yet get jitters when speaking in front of a large group when all attention is focused on me. I wish I knew why that is. I will tell myself all of the reasons why this is irrational, yet the butterflies remain. Singing in front of people?? No problem. Go figure ...
Song of the day??
"Dancing in the Moonlight" ... I am definately NOT afraid of that song.
Annie, my irrational fear is not being good enough. I always talk to myself about how stupid I am or ask why I did something stupid. My blog is a big step for me. If I don't get at least one comment on a post, or my traffic dips a little more than the few readers I have I want to quit. True true true. I am not asking for anything either.I have learned to take me as I am. I have to blog for ME. right? By the way I have something for you at my blog.
My fear is someone coming in the window...to kill me....since I was a little girl my parents left the window open in summer to let in a breeze and when I got into bed I couldn't relax because I was sure someone was coming for me.
Now, we live in the same house (we bought it when my parents built a house in Berwick Me.) and hubby changed the window and added double locks.
Yup your right...I am nuts..
I know it's crazy but that faceless person...coming for me...doesn't scare me every night but often enough.
I am scared to death of elevators and escalators. I know it's crazy, right?! I'm afraid that I'll get stuck between floors in an elevator and on an escalator, I'm worried that any part of my clothes, shoes, body will get stuck in the very top or bottom part and I'll be sucked to oblivion!
Dawn, Abelle, Merrill, Eric (Speedcat), Sue, Maunie, and Tish,
Every- single- one- of- you- are excellent- people! These are some of the best responses I've ever had to Tuesday's Question. (That includes those of you I've answered individually)
I'm so sorry I haven't replied or posted your answers yet... However, believe me they will be posted tomorrow.
I had to let you all how impressed I am with your answers.
Love to you all~
Annie
Have a great day and weekend honey. Off to the boat for us. The weather is going to be in the 80s all weekend. Yummy. Big hug and lotsa lovies. :)
mm there was a picture in my Grand mothers house of her father..I was sure those yes moved..it gave me the willies walking by it..I can remember being 4 or 5..and scurrying past that thing in the hallway scared to death...
My irrational fear is large boats - as in ships. I understand the physics of why they float and all that, and I'm not afraid of water or swimming or little boats. It's just that something that HUGE (size of a city block) should not MOVE. Or get tossed about on waves. It's just WRONG.
Yeah, I know. Next I'll be afraid of Baby Ruths or something. (Oh, God, I hope not.)
Worms.
(**shudder**)
Definitely worms.
