Saturday Evening's Favorite Movie Moment- 'Charlotte's Web'

Saturday's Favorite Movie Moment embraces the best movie adaptations from books, unless I find a screenplay written as well as a book.-If that's possible, and I many times it is-

The award winning classic, Charlotte's Web, was written by E. B. White, the author of many other beloved classics such as Stuart Little, The Trumpet of the Swan, and Where The Mountain meets The Moon.

E.B. White was born in Mount Vernon, New York, and was the author of many other award winning essays for adults. He is also the author of  The Elements of Style, which is commonly known as "Strunk & White".

I've owned a least five copies of The Elements of Style in my lifetime, and still refer to my present copy often.

E.B White's children's books illustrate his astounding imagination, gift for characterization, dialogue, phrasing, and above all else storytelling. E.B. White died on October the first in 1985, but his books will remain shelved for many lifetimes, teaching children and adults about love, sacrifice, loss, joy, courage, friendship, loyalty, and life.

If you haven't read these children's classics to your children, it is never too late to buy a copy.

Thank you for stopping by A Nice Place In The Sun, and I hope you have an excellent week-end- :)

Heaven on Earth

My grandmother, who my brothers and I referred to as "Nana," tortured her grandchildren and neighbors by taking outside showers in her garden clothes, well, that is, until the shower broke, and she couldn't find a person within miles to fix it. The shower or pipe stood about five feet long with a shower head, and a place where you could attach a hose on the side, like a shower/water faucet combination.

There was a concrete floor under the shower so your feet didn't sink in the grass and form a muddy mess while you bathed.

My grandmother's property was in an old neighborhood that accommodated the new world: for instance, her garden and ancient outside shower were next door to her neighbor’s tennis court and paved driveway, although Nana’s circular drive was gravel.

But, the ingredients of the old and new worlds did coexist, although sandwiched between my grandmothers back porch and the neighbor’s back door and tennis court, stood the outside shower.

My brothers and I played in the water pipe/shower, especially in the summer, and the outside water hose/pipe/shower, also functioned as a water supply to the garden and the rest of the side yard, when necessary.

My grandmother never understood why her grandchildren refused to take an outside shower, although, I think she did notice how eager we were to bathe inside.

It never occurred to her that perhaps our reluctance to bathe outside was the fact that her neighbors had a clear view of the garden shower, as well as the breakfast table. In other words, she could never grasp the fact that the people next door may not wish to view her soap her body, garden clothes or not, in the gleaming sun while they drank their morning coffee.

Awww... Mondays...

Awww... Monday's, is a weekly post in which Sandee from Comedy Plus, invites her readers to join her in posting a picture that makes you say Awww...This Monday, I posted a photo of my son, or 'Lucky Luke.'
Lucky Luke

He is four in this photo and insisted on being called 'Lucky Luke,' a character in one of his favorite books. My mother snapped this photo at her home where she has horses, which only made matters worse, since Lucky Luke was a cowboy. A cowboy known for 'Shooting faster than his shadow,' and my son adored him. (Obviously)

We had to refer to him as Lucky Luke for about a year, after which he
moved onto the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc...

Thank you Sandee, for creating such a fun way to begin the week-

And thanks for visiting A Nice Place In The Sun.

Online Dating Is Not For Me

I think online dating sites are all right. In fact, I have a friend who met a nice person on an online dating site. The relationship didn’t work out, but that wasn’t the site’s fault, and she's still a member. Although, I can't get used to the idea myself, I do understand why people join.

Online dating is just not my thing. So when a friend talked me into joining a site a while back, (the result of many generously poured glasses of wine,) my response to my interested suitors e-mails included the following excuses: I’m sorry, but I can’t, I have to work, my head hurts, or I have to baby sit my unborn grandchildren.

I ended up with the online name “Tinkerbell,” and Tinkerbell enjoys every hobby under the sun, she works out regularly, has a perfect body, and on and on.

I've posted a copy of my profile at the end of this post so that you can learn more about Tinkerbell.

My profile is so unreal a two year old monkey could guess I'm full of bull. I mean, some of it I guess is believable, but come on, but here's a few examples of Tinkerbell's talents: she's a mountain climber, motor cross dirt bike racer, hunter, snorkeler, water skier, etc...

Lost inside a state of mental and physical exhaustion, I prayed to meet an angel on earth, then, I felt the pillow of a horses mouth gently sweep grass from the palm of my hand. – Ann Clemmons

Words-

Words are the core of our souls, without written, vocal or lyrical expression we lose sight of one another or worse, ourselves. Words bring forth the essence of the human spirit; so express yourself without abandon.

Favorite Phrase

I remember I used to half believe and wholly play with fairies when I was a child. What heaven can be more real than to retain the spirit-world of childhood, tempered and balanced by knowledge and common-sense...

Alone in her world
of make believe
weaving her stories
of magic and light

She brings joy
to the eyes
of innocent minds
less jaded and free

For only they know
what's in her heart
holding the secrets
she guards so well

Life's hidden mysteries
belong to those
whose wisdom and truth
shine on in imagination

In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I’ve been turning over in my mind ever since.
